Where lost-wage money comes from
Your own auto policy's income loss benefit. Pennsylvania only requires $5,000 in medical benefits; income loss coverage is optional. If you bought it, it pays a portion of your lost income regardless of fault, up to your policy limit. Check your declarations page.
The at-fault driver's liability insurance. Wages your own coverage didn't pay can be claimed from the person who caused the crash.

Paid time off and sick days you had to use.
Time missed for doctor visits and therapy.
Lost self-employment or gig income.

How to prove it
Adjusters want paper. Gather:
A doctor's note taking you out of work or restricting your duties.
A wage-loss letter from your employer stating your pay rate, usual hours and dates missed.
Pay stubs from before the crash and tax returns — especially if you're self-employed.
For gig and delivery work, app earnings history.
Common mistakes
Going back to work before your doctor clears you, and then stopping again, is used to argue you could have worked all along. Missing out-of-work notes leave gaps an insurer won't pay for. And settling before you know whether you can return to your job can leave future losses uncompensated.
